Armenian genocide not named during Obama's foreign trip

President Barack Obama said during the presidential campaign that he would recognize the Armenian genocide. But on a recent overseas trip, he seemed to take pains to avoid uttering the word itself. The Armenian genocide was carried out by the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1923, and resulted in the deaths of 1.5 million, according to a proposed resolution considered by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2007. The resolution failed in the face of Bush administration concerns that it would alienate Turkey, which borders Iraq. The issue has long been controversial in Turkey, where leaders have resisted the label "genocide." Obama addressed the issue in response to a reporter's question at a joint news conference in Ankara with President Abdullah Gul of Turkey. Obama said his views hadn't changed, but then went on to answer the question without using the word "genocide.

Obama Team Eyes Second Amendment

On Sunday, November 9, 2008, Rahm Emanuel, now White House Chief of Staff, famously described the Obama administration’s philosophy for governing: “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. What I mean by that is it is an opportunity to do things you couldn’t do before.” O-Team sycophants in the so-called mainstream media chuckled. Conservatives were alarmed. We now know we had reason to be.

At the time Mr. Emanuel made his comment -- five days after the election -- we thought he was referring to the ongoing “economic crisis” to justify life-altering legislation on new government spending, social entitlements, higher taxes and massive debt. A quick glance at the Obama budget proves we were right. However, it turns out we grossly underestimated the willingness of the O-Team to apply their carpe crisis maxim to every situation -- foreign or domestic.

Anyone who has followed the current travail of the Mexican government in dealing with hyper-violent drug cartels south of the Rio Grande agrees that it is a serious calamity. In 2008, more than 5,800 people were killed in Mexican drug-related violence, double the number in 2007. At least 1,100 have died thus far in 2009.

The $40 billion that drug lords reap annually from U.S., Canadian and European “customers” has fueled massive corruption in Mexico, allowing cartels virtually unlimited power. Ruthless killings of civil, police and military officials who resist has become endemic. When the chief of police in Ciudad Juarez refused a cartel order to resign, he was told that they would kill one of his police officers every 48 hours. Five of his officers were murdered in ten days. The chief quit and went into hiding.

Not all of the problem is south of the border. Well-funded Mexican-affiliated drug gangs operate in at least 230 U.S. cities and towns -- keeping their American “clients” supplied -- and fighting for “turf.” Last year in Phoenix, Arizona, there were more than 370 drug-related kidnappings. Cartel-related crimes have been reported from Albuquerque to Anchorage and Seattle to Savannah.

Last month Mexico’s courageous and beleaguered President, Felipe Calderon, began deploying military units to fight well-armed narco-terrorists in northern Mexico. On the U.S. side of the border, DEA, ATF, FBI, CBP (Customs & Border Patrol) and ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) agents along with state and local law enforcement officers, commenced a coordinated, multi-state crackdown on drug gangs. According to the Department of Justice, the operation netted 755 drug dealers, money launderers and smugglers.

In addition to committing additional law-enforcement assets to the border, the U.S. is also providing Mexican authorities with intelligence, high-tech detection gear, sophisticated sensors and night-vision equipment for combating cartel “foot soldiers” armed with automatic weapons, hand grenades, heavy machine guns and soviet-era rocket propelled grenade launchers. This help is certainly warranted. It is in our national interest that the Calderon campaign against the cartels succeeds.

Unfortunately, the O-Team and their “progressive” allies in Congress aren’t satisfied with the progress that is being made thus far. They apparently intend to use the “Cartel Crisis,” as Mr. Emanuel has advocated, “to do things you couldn’t do before.”

On February 25, Attorney General Eric Holder urged the U.S. “to reinstitute the ban on assault weapons. I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.” The following day, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said, “I am prepared to wage the assault weapons battle again and intend to do so.” And on March 17, during a Senate subcommittee on Crime and Drugs, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) claimed that an “iron river of guns from the United States arms Mexican drug cartels to the teeth.”

clipped from www.humanevents.com Reality check: resurrecting the so-called “Assault Weapons Ban” that expired in 2004 isn’t going to do anything to help the Mexican government deal with drug cartels or any other criminal organizations. Nor was the O-Team’s decision to stop the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) from allowing surplus military brass cartridges to be re-loaded going to stop a single bullet from reaching criminals. Thankfully, that inane rule has been reversed, saving law-abiding gun owners -- and our heavily indebted government -- money.

The Mexican drug cartels aren’t being armed by law-abiding Americans. Rather than trying to re-enact meaningless legislation based on the appearance of a firearm or the shape of a magazine, the O-Team and their congressional allies need to focus on securing our borders and providing the resources to enforce the laws we already have on the books. Infringing on the 2nd Amendment rights of U.S. citizens won’t make Mexicans, or any of us, any safer or more secure -- no matter how severe the crisis.

Blundering Afghan suicide bomber blows up 6 militants

A would-be suicide bomber accidentally blew himself up on Thursday, killing six other militants as he was bidding them farewell to leave for his intended target, the Interior Ministry said.

"The terrorist was on his way to his destination and saying good-bye to his associates and then his suicide vest exploded," a statement from the ministry said.

Taliban-led attacks in Afghanistan have escalated in the past year with suicide and roadside bombings insurgents' weapons of choice.

The incident happened in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan where mainly British troops are struggling against a growing Taliban-led insurgency.

In a separate incident in Helmand, nine policemen were killed when Taliban insurgents attacked a police post in Nari Sarraj district, the Interior Ministry said.

Elsewhere, four Taliban insurgents were killed and seven policemen and two civilians wounded during a battle just outside Ghazni city, about 200 km (125 miles) southwest of the capital Kabul, a spokesman for the provincial governor said.

On Friday, Washington is set to unveil a review of its strategy in Afghanistan, which is expected to emphasise the need to expand Afghan security forces and strengthen the country's heavily aid-dependent economy.

Televison Ratings Decline for "The Barack Obama Circus Show"

There's no surprise here, at least not to anyone other than Barack Obama. Gee, I hope his feelings aren't hurt. It's tough being President, isn't it Obambi? I'm sure he's longing for those days on the campaign trail when he was treated like a rock star. When will he ever realize that his tired act has grown stale?

According to the national Nielsen ratings, Barack Obama's Tuesday-night press conference lost viewers compared with his two most recent heavily covered evening events. The news special drew 40.4 million viewers -- down 18% from from his Feb. 9 press conference, and down 23% from his Feb. 24 address to Congress. The numbers are the combined viewership from 11 cable and broadcast networks that carried the event.

Barack Obama and His Four Horsemen

Over at the Conservative Black Woman's blog earlier today, I came upon her repost of an excellent commentary by a fellow blogger describing the havoc that Barack Obama and his four horsemen (Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, and Frank) are wreaking:

Why do I get the feeling that Obama sold his political career to the Chicago Political Machine in order to serve as a Manchurian Candidate for Socialist/Communist special interests?

Since he has taken office, he has completely mind-screwed Americans with his misguided and poorly-implemented policies. Pelosi and Reid, flanked by Schumer and Frank, are the Four Horsemen of the Barackalypse. All five of them are behaving like hippies who have locked themselves in a head shop. Each is lighting up their personal stashes of ideological weed using every bong they see. They are lost in a haze of self-indulgence that obscures their criminality from passersby standing just outside the head shop window.

Barack and his posse of scorched earth politicans are up to something and this doesn’t portend well for this country.

What’s also worrisome are their claims that they have received a mandate from the masses to toss the cultural salad and throw it into disarray. This is untrue, of course, but Queen Pelosi has been chomping at the bit to have someone in office to manipulate in order to get far left Socialist (aka liberal) agenda pushed through.

Power. That’s what she wants. Power and control. Over you and me. Obama wants power, too. Especially over our youth. His Brownshirts Bill just passed in the House. If it passes in the Senate and is signed by the president, Obama and his henchman Emanual will also gain power over our children.

I don’t think I have ever felt as anxious and nauseous as I have since November of last year. Knowing that fellow Americans willingly chose a man who told us he was going to tax us (vis a vis corporations and small business owners, who will pass the costs along); establish a Civilian Security Force every bit as powerful, equipped, and funded as the military (o.0!); and “transform our nation,” makes me look askance at every person driving a car sporting an Obama sticker.

Since January 20th, my every fear about the man with no past has been realized. Every step of the way, Obama has performed badly as President. He has insulted a number of our allies, laughed openly at the plight of Americans his ideology doesn’t embrace, and has allowed Tim Geitner to throw billions away in order to purportedly fix the economy. The reality is, every Obama political supporter has received financial payback in these hackneyed stimulus bills. Yet the root causes for this financial debacle are still not addressed. And, the first Black President has effectively made slaves of us all.

Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, and Schumer have lied time and again. They are absolutely untrustworthy. Their scurrilous actions and mendacious speeches are leading to the ruination of our country. Were it not for their allies and enablers in the MSM, we might have a fighting chance against Obama and his horsemen. But, sadly, they have formed an unfair, unspoken, and immoral conspiracy to deny citizens the Truth about Congressional exploits and acts of treason.

Now, it seems the only way to save our country is to literally fight these unrepresentatives. Perhaps it is time for everyday citizens to march on Washington, D.C. in such numbers that even the police there would be unable and unwilling to face the wrath of millions of furious Americans.

We can dismount all of the horsemen in Washington and avert the impending Barackalypse. (Source)-emphasis added

Barack Obama's Lame Press Conference

Hey Barry - Do us all a favor next time and have them just load your phony, insincere speech into the teleprompter and you can just skip this little sideshow. Go read a book or something and we can all simply watch the speech scroll on that humongous new teleprompter they set you up with. Yes, I know you're so proud of yourself that you're doing something different and you don't have those omnipresent smaller teleprompters flanking the podium like training wheels on a kid's bicycle. Hey wow, look, no teleprompters now! They can take wide angle shots now and you won't be embarrassed by those crutches on both sides of you. Critics can cease ridiculing you over your complete inability to speak coherently without them. Um, no. How dumb do you really think people are? Within ten seconds of your press conference tonight it became so painfully obvious that you were simply reading off a new giant teleprompter in the back of the room, even though the cameras didn't catch a shot of it until afterward.

While I'm at it, please tell your speech writers to stop writing in that flowery prose that I am simply sick and tired of. Every damn speech is jam packed with crapola lines such as:

There are no quick fixes, and there are no silver bullets.

..... an economic cycle of bubble and bust

The road to that prosperity is still long, and we will hit our share of bumps and setbacks before it ends.

But we must remember that we can get there if we travel that road as one nation, as one people.

Those last two are particularly egregious. I honestly cannot even believe that you're a lawyer. Even a first year law student that was unfortunate enough to have majored in English has that pansy imagery beaten out of their writing by the end of their first semester. Then again I find it hard to believe that you even attended law school, let alone passed a bar exam. Even your supporters have finally realized what an intellectual lightweight you really are. I would personally love to see some documentation, but I suppose all of those records are locked away in the vault with the real birth certificate.

Finally, and I hate to have to tell you this, I am really, really sick of you, as are most Americans. Shut the hell up already and just stay in the Oval Office and try to get some damn work done. It's bad enough that you were the first President-elect to stage press conferences nearly every day of the transition (except for that Hawaiian vacation over the holidays, of course). But you've still been all over television ever since the inauguration, starting with the cabinet announcements almost every day, two evening press conferences already, your phony roadshow events where you're just stuck in campaign mode, the pathetic Tonight Show appearance last week, then the 60 Minutes interview, and on and on and on. Give it a rest, Barry. It's not making us like you any better. Rather, everyone is sick to death of you, even people who were dumb enough to vote for you.

That aside, there is some scary stuff in your remarks tonight, particularly your desires to seize unprecedented powers over all of corporate America. To that, Duhhbama, I will just say:

I HOPE YOU FAIL!!

Uproar Over Obama at Notre Dame Commencement

Barack Hussein Obama has been invited to appear at the University of Notre Dame at the commencement ceremonies this May, where he will not only deliver the commencement address, but he will also receive an honorary degree. In place of the usual graduation cap, I suggest that Obama don the much more appropriate dunce cap pictured to the left.

Not surprisingly, many at the Catholic university are rather upset over the decision to "honor" Obama, the most pro-abortion president in the history of the United States:

Many Roman Catholics are outraged by last week's announcement that the University of Notre Dame will be issuing Barack Obama an honorary degree and welcoming the pro-abortion president to deliver its commencement address.

Notre Dame alumnus Joe Scheidler, the national director of the Pro-Life Action League, issued a statement calling on Father Father John Jenkins, the president of Notre Dame, to withdraw the invitation to Obama.

"My alma mater should not be providing a platform for this president," said Scheidler. "Starting from his first week in office, President Obama has enacted a string of executive orders, appointments and policy decisions that contradict Catholic teaching on the sanctity of life – a teaching that Notre Dame is supposed to uphold."

Scheidler added, "Father Jenkins cannot expect pro-life Catholics to stand back and allow the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history to make a mockery of Notre Dame's Catholic identity."

White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs announced during his regular press briefing on Friday that Obama would deliver the commencement addresses at three universities: Arizona State, the U.S. Naval Academy and Notre Dame.

On the same day, the Notre Dame website announced, "President Barack Obama will be the principal speaker and the recipient of an honorary doctor of laws degree at the University of Notre Dame's 164th University Commencement Ceremony at 2 p.m. May 17."

The announcement drew mixed reactions on the Notre Dame campus.

Senior Emily Toates told The Observer, an online campus newspaper, that she cannot reconcile Obama's position on abortion with Notre Dame's Catholic teaching.

"I don't think he belongs as a speaker at Notre Dame," she said. "I understand that he's the president, but at the same time, his views and his policy-making are completely out of line with the mission of the university."

Senior Spencer Howard, president of the College Democrats at Notre Dame, however, said everyone he has talked to, regardless of party affiliation, is excited about the choice.

"I think we all are still stunned about it," he told the Observer. "I don't think anyone really expected to have the president of the United States speak at our commencement."

At press time, all five of the spots in the Observer's "Most Popular Stories" section were taken by articles or opinion pieces on the commencement speaker controversy, and campus representatives are well aware of the attention the debate is generating.

"Though Barack Obama's lofty political position and worldwide celebrity status will certainly garner significant publicity for the university," writes Notre Dame student Ben Linskey in the Observer, "the Notre Dame administration has made a serious error."

Linskey, co-president of the university's College Libertarians, criticizes Obama for his positions on abortion, stem cell research, foreign policy, civil liberties and economic policies.

"By inviting Mr. Obama to speak at commencement," Linskey writes, "the university administration is betraying Notre Dame's great mission and doing a disservice to its students."

Criticism of the university's choice for commencement speaker also prompted response from Notre Dame's president.

"We have invited the president, and he's honored us by accepting," Jenkins said in an Observer interview. "Presidents from both parties have come to Notre Dame for decades to speak to graduates about our nation and our world. They've given important addresses on international affairs, human rights, service, and we're delighted that President Obama is continuing that tradition."

Jenkins continued, "The invitation of President Obama to be our commencement speaker should in no way be taken as condoning or endorsing his positions on specific issues regarding the protection of life, such as abortion and embryonic stem cell research.

"We are not ignoring the critical issue of the protection of life. On the contrary, we invited him because we care so much about those issues, and we hope for this to be the basis of an engagement

with him," Jenkins said. "You cannot change the world if you shun the people you want to persuade; and if you cannot persuade them, show respect for them and listen to them."

Organized protests

Jenkins also stated that he does not foresee circumstances that would lead to rescinding the invitation to Obama, though groups are organizing in protest of the university's decision.

The Cardinal Newman Society, a group that describes itself in its mission statement as "dedicated to renewing and strengthening Catholic identity at America's 224 Catholic colleges and universities," has launched a website hoping to pressure Jenkins into reconsidering.

The site includes an online petition that at press time had generated over 20,000 signatures.

"It is an outrage and a scandal that 'Our Lady's University,' one of the premier Catholic universities in the United States, would bestow such an honor on President Obama given his clear support for policies and laws that directly contradict fundamental Catholic teachings on life and marriage," states the petition. "We prayerfully implore you to halt this travesty immediately."

"Notre Dame has chosen a man to hold up as a role model who advocates the legal right to murder the most defenseless in society," writes Kevin Keane, who describes himself as a 1988 alumnus of Notre Dame in the Observer. "I will be in attendance on commencement day with several thousand others to show my distaste for this decision."

Keane continues, "We will bring with us the graphic photos of what abortion does to its victims, so there can be no doubt about the hatefulness of the man chosen to instruct Notre Dame graduates in how to be a success in life. I would suggest that if the administration does not want to suffer the embarrassment of pictures of dismembered children lining Notre Dame Ave. on what should be the happiest day of our newest graduates' lives, they withdraw this invitation immediately."

This is completely outrageous! As I was preparing to post this story, I turned on Fox News, where Martha MacCallum was discussing it with ultra liberal Phil Donahue and Father Jonathan Morris (via telephone). MacCallum asked Donahue how he would feel if a Jewish university invited someone who was anti-semetic to speak at their commencement when that would clearly go against the central core of the most fundamental belief of what that university stands for. Similarly, in this situation, a central core of Catholicism is respect for and a protection of life which cuts against these issues of embryonic stem cell research and abortion.

Catholics and the Catholic church are unfortunately quite used to being the last acceptable punching bag for the left and the liberal MSM. But, what's most appalling in this instance is that the President of Notre Dame actually handed Obama the boxing gloves. I honestly feel sorry for all the students graduating and for their parents who spent the last four years dumping well over six figures into that school. Some freaking thanks!

Obama's Teleprompter Has a Message For Him

Well, it looks like President Doofus Teleprompter has demonstrated his remarkable "eloquence" and "intelligence" yet again. Apparently, an omnipresent teleprompter isn't sufficient in his case, and they will need to start adding the phonetic pronunciations for him:

clipped from www.powerlineblog.com Everyone knows that Barack Obama is lost without his teleprompter, but his latest blunder, courtesy of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, via the Corner, suggests that the teleprompter may not be enough unless it includes phonetic spellings. Obama was speaking at a White House roundtable on clean energy systems, and repeatedly saluted Orion Energy Systems, whose CEO, Neal Verfuerth, was present at the event. So Obama referred to "Orion" a number of times. Only problem was, he appeared to be unfamiliar with the word: All terrific press for Orion, except that Obama kept pronouncing the company's name wrong, calling it OAR-ee-on.

Unbelievable. Orion is one of the best-known constellations, mostly because it actually looks like its namesake. So evidently we have to add astronomy to history and economics as subjects of which Obama is remarkably ignorant. I'm beginning to fear that our President has below-average knowledge of the world. Not for a President, but for a middle-aged American.

This latest episode suggests that Obama's teleprompter should up the ante. Iowahawk obtained exclusive access to the teleprompter's attempt to shake down the Big Guy (Warning, the teleprompter's language can be a little rough):

If the teleprompter starts giving the President phonetic pronunciations of words the rest of us know but the President doesn't, there's no telling what concessions he might win!

Finally, I know it's a trite observation, and one to which we have been driven on almost a daily basis since the Age of Obama began two short months ago, but can you imagine the hooting and hollering that would have ensued if George Bush had never heard of Orion? I can't, actually.

BRUCE: But here's Michelle Obama explaining to some kids what it was like for her growing up because she sounded like a white person, whatever that means.

OBAMA [audio clip]: I did do my best, getting good grades was always important to me, and it wasn't because my parents were -

BRUCE: It's all about her.
OBAMA [audio clip]: -- hounding me or that they had the expectation, it was just something that I wanted for myself. I wanted an A. And I didn't care whether it was cool, ‘cause I remember there were kids around my neighborhood who would say, "Ooh, you talk funny, you talk like a white girl." I heard that growing up my whole life, and I was like I don't even know what that means, but you know what? I'm still getting my A.

BRUCE: What? What? What -- what is that? And then she devolves into that weird fake accent, like Hillary did when talking to black people. What? What is that? That's, that -- you know what that is.

DAVID AFTER DENTIST [audio clip]: Is this going to be forever?

BRUCE: Yeah, that - remember nitrous oxide kid, on You Tube. No it's not going to be forever, nitrous oxide kid. It's not. Can you -- can you believe that?

OBAMA [audio clip]: So do I need to introduce myself?

BRUCE: What a shame. That must've just ruined her damn day. "I wanted the A for myself, and I wanted to do it, and ooh, they said you sounded like a white person, I don't know what that means, but uhh." Huh?

clipped from mediamatters.org Man, oh, man. That's who he's married to, what does that tell you? This is what we've got -- you know what we've got? We've got trash in the White House. Trash is a, is a thing that is color blind, it can cross all eco -- ecosocionomic kind of categories, you can work on Wall Street or work at the Wal-Mart. Trash are people who use other people to get things, who patronize others, who consider you bitter and clingy.
